Biography

Jack Murphy (He/Him) is a queer starlet living in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Novi, Michigan, Jack came to New York City to attend school at The Juilliard School. Currently working at Trader Joe’s, listening to Lana Del Rey, and collecting dolls makes up his day to day life. His starlet affinity is most similar to Mia Goth screaming “PLEASE I’M A STAR!” in a red prairie dress. Often relating to horror movie heroines, Jack’s work is both fantastical and unsettling. He takes a lot of inspiration from Martha Graham in her approach to choreography with themes often grappling with the same issues she’s facing through a narrative approach. Preferring overtness to subtlety, camp over reality, Jack offers a warped mirror seeing reality and fantasy. Jack’s work has been presented in WhiteWave’s SoloDuo Festival, The Invisible Dogs Pride Festival and Sangeeta Yesley’s “8 in Show”
